The Hospital Winter Preparedness Conference 2017

The NHS has just faced its toughest winter on record. Bed occupancy rates peaked at 96%, a huge number of trusts reported severe levels of operational stress, and the performance of emergency departments against the four-hour waiting time standard were well off the 95% target. Evidently, hospitals continue to face unprecedented levels of pressure over the winter months.

Despite significant financial constraints, improvements can still be made. The Department of Health has announced an allocation of over £55m pounds to ease the pressure on emergency departments for next winter. Performance variability among trusts also suggests that there are ways to improve regardless of funding. Now is the time to learn from others who have successfully managed patient flows in a similar environment of pressure.  Attend this Westminster Briefing to find out what measures can be taken to prepare your service before the next winter.

Key Issues to be Addressed:

  • Winter 2016/17: what can we learn?
  • Learning from those who have more successfully managed patient flows during winter
  • Achieving safe and timely performance in an environment of financial constraint
  • Preparing for the next winter: what short term measures can be taken now?
  • Meeting the 4-hour A&E waiting time standard
  • Combating winter disruptions to critical supply chain infrastructures
